![]() ![]() ![]() More: Review: In ‘Belfast,’ Kenneth Branagh delivers one of the year’s best films It’s quite easy to take a dislike to most of them or all of them. However, Branagh the director shoulders the blame for a meandering setup that presents a cast of characters with each not really having much in the way of redeeming qualities. Kenneth Branagh, the actor, makes a formidable Hercule Poirot, the detective extraordinaire and hero of several Christie novels. That’s not to say that “Nile” is necessarily a complete miss. ![]() With nothing spoiled, it served as a welcome gauge as to where approximately the narrative was.Īfter a 45-minute slog to get to the heart of the matter – the actual initial murder – the knowledge that this cinematic excursion would be over soon enough was welcome. It took awhile, but the solution to the murders most foul committed in “Death on the Nile,” an adaptation of the 1937 Agatha Christie book that I read in eighth grade, zipped back from distant memory about halfway through its runtime. The problem with watching murder mysteries from novels you’ve read: Barring a major change, the ending is known. ![]()
